BACIN: Bay Area Community Investment Network

About the Bay Area Community Investment Network

BACIN participants are commercial and community based financial institutions, investors and funds that invest in neighborhoods with high levels of poverty (domestic emerging markets) to achieve poverty reduction, community wealth creation, and smart growth.

BACIN encourages collaboration among participating organizations by:

  • Sharing information on pre-screened investment opportunities that can lead to investment or co-investment by BACIN participants.
  • Exchanging participant investment criteria to encourage mutual referrals of appropriate deals.
  • Sharing information about Bay Area community investment initiatives and exploring opportunities for collaboration.
  • Identifying areas of mutual interest and concern and formulating cooperative action strategies where appropriate.

BACIN is organized by the Bay Area Family of Funds. The Family of Funds is a project of the Bay Area Council in association with the Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Communities, called for in the Compact for a Sustainable Bay Area.

The Family of Funds currently consists of three double bottom line funds: Bay Area Smart Growth Fund, Bay Area Equity Fund: a double bottom line fund, and the California Environmental Redevelopment Fund (CERF).

Among other objectives, BACIN is a vehicle by which the Family of Funds seeks to leverage the capital invested by the individual funds .
